Training has really been up and down over the past few weeks since I’ve had a chance to blog.
All in all, it’s been going very well, with my distances going up, and my times going down…
I have been doing the 6 mile “Bunco Loop” 3 times a week or so, and supplementing it with a couple of 3-4 milers, and at least one longer run per week.
In the last two weeks, I have done a 9.3 miler, and a 12 miler on the 24th. They went well, and I finished the 12 miles in 1:49, and I still had quite a bit of gas in the tank.
Andy, Jeni and Lisa and I did the loop together in the middle of December, and then this morning (Jan 1st) Kelley and Morgan joined us, and did the entire loop with us, even though Kelley wasn’t, in her words, in the best shape ever.
Perhaps the coolest thing has been my new Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS watch (the same as Andy’s) which is REALLY cool! It shows you distance, time, pace, heartrate, elevation, your route, etc. It really makes you aware of how you’re doing, and what your pace is, etc.
The day after I got it, I did the 6 mile loop in 49.05, which was my fastest, and is pretty good, since there is basically a mile of uphill. According to the GPS, I did the last mile in 7:14, and averaged 8:08 total.
The next day, I ran my favorite 3.25 miles in 25.54, or 7:58 average, with the last mile in 6:37. The fastest I got up to was 5:38 mile pace.
I actually didn’t get a chance to run much the last few days (odd, when Andy is here!) as we have been busy skiing, paintballing etc with the kids, so today’s loop was really satisfying.
My heartrate is slowly getting better, and was only up to 163 at the max today. Resting rate is also down to about 52, which is pretty good for me.
The weight loss/gain is also going up and down, with the holidays being only so-so… I was down to a fifteen year low of 183 just before Christmas, but am up a bit now, with less running, and more treats, but I’m still down 24 or so from August. I can really feel even small gains now, so back to being careful again tomorrow!
I’ve been running with my new Helly hansen shoes, and they have been GREAT! Could be the lightest shoes I’ve ran in in years.
Overall, things are good, and I am REALLY looking forward to the upcoming year! We need to start getting some dates down for all the organizer types, so they can plan… here are a couple of what we know:
Feb: Meet in Chicago with Andy for some training. Also, post-GWGF sounds good.
April/May: A possible short advanture race in Missoula
Late May/early June: Possibly meet in tahoe to do last year’s course as a run through?
June: Go and watch some of “PQ” (Primal Quest) in Montana.
July: Meet and do some kayaking in the San Juans or somewhere like that?
August: Hawaii for training?!? 🙂
September 20: The Race! We’re thinking about getting a van and trailer from EWU, and heading down a few days early to get acclimatized. Spa day is the 21st, says my wife. 🙂
Love you all! Keep up the great training, and let’s try to get together as often as we can!
